What Is The Difference Between The Honda Accord Sport And EX-L?

It is easy to see why the Honda Accord is a leader among mid-size sedans, it is comfortable, versatile, affordable, and fun. It is the entire package and offers great value to drivers who can see beyond its lack of SUV styling for what it is—a superb car that offers a driving thrill and does almost everything an average compact crossover can do. The Accord is available in six trim levels, but two—the Sport and EX-L—are especially popular among drivers.

Overview of the 2022 Honda Accord and its Trim Levels

Introduced in 1976, the Honda Accord has come a long way in its 46 years. After undergoing a light refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 Accord is a finely tuned machine that is ready to rock drivers’ worlds.

In Canada, Honda offers the 2022 Accord in six model configurations: SE, Sport, EX-L, Touring, Sport 2.0, and Touring 2.0. The Accord ranks at the top of the midsize sedan class because of its amazing driving dynamics, good fuel economy, spacious cabin and trunk, and intuitive infotainment features.

There are both subtle and not-so-subtle differences between the trim levels. Here is how they compare:

2022 Honda Accord Sport

The 2022 Honda Accord Sport model adds differentiating standard features from the base model that make it a more exciting and complete choice for buyers.

For performance and efficiency, the Sport model adds in steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a Sport mode button. Inside, there is a wireless charging pad, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and premium 10-speaker audio system. And as a link between the interior and exterior, the Sport model adds in a one-touch power moonroof with a tilt feature.

2022 Honda Accord EX-L

The 2022 Honda Accord EX-L model offers a more refined experience for drivers. It builds upon the features found in the Sport model, and for the exterior, adds 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, chrome door handles, heated power door mirrors, body-coloured side sill garnish with chrome moulding, and a chrome grille.

Inside, drivers are treated to upgraded features such as an auto-dimming rearview mirror, SiriusXM radio, perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces, HomeLink remote system, heated rear seats, rear seat ventilation, and more.

Comparing 2022 Accord Sport and EX-L

Side by side in the Accord model lineup, the Sport and EX-L models offer many similarities but enough differences to sway drivers one way or the other.

The main differences between the 2022 Honda Accord Sport and the 2022 Honda Accord EX-L are found in the cars’ appearances. Outside, the Sport model boasts body-coloured door handles, black door mirrors, body-coloured side sill garnish, dual exhaust finishers, a dark chrome grille, and a rear deck lid spoiler. It gives the car a sleeker and sportier appearance, especially the spoiler on the back. On the other hand, the EX-L looks more upscale with chrome door handles, moulding, and grille. It also reduces wheel size to 17 inches compared to the Sport’s 19-inch wheels and adds in many interior features, such as heated rear seats and perforated leather-trimmed seating surfaces.

The other major difference is the Sport model’s ability to offer a bit peppier of ride. The model features steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a Sport mode button to allow drivers to be a little more in tune with the vehicle, though this does slightly decrease fuel economy. All other systems, including infotainment and driver-assist technologies, remain the same on both models.

Honda Accord Sport and EX-L

The choice between the 2022 Honda Accord Sport and 2022 Honda Accord EX-L is yours and yours alone. While the Sport offers a bit more feistiness to your daily drive, the EX-L adds refinement and luxury. Review the differences and make your pick—you can’t make a wrong choice.
